Using most of the existing copy this was a complete UI re-design to create a fresh look and bring it up-to-date. This was also my first jaunt into creating a favicon.
I helped a good friend complete the UI for this website. I designed the MySQL database and implemented SQLAlchemy as the ORM and Pylons as the web framework. I integrated Google Checkout for the online shop. I also had a lot of fun designing the shopping basket graphic.
This project took a collection of enthusiastic and innovative ideas and turned them into lots of scribbles and pictures, which later morphed into a written and illustrated design.
The logo design was crucially important as a first step. Hours of fun and head scratching resulted in the combination of a wordmark with supporting image. The next stage was carefully crafting the site content to be interesting, informative and optimised for search engines. Round three was choosing the right Javascript framework, I eventually decided on jquery due to its tiny size when packed and gzipped. Finally I passed the beta site on so that it could be poked, prodded and made to explode spectacularly and subsequently made whole again.
